Virtual teams now a practical reality

Matching specialised skills with employer needs, along with cost-efficiencies in tough economic times, were two of the main drivers behind a Brisbane-based IT company’s decision to launch its virtual teams service.

Mosaic Technologies Australia’s director, Mr Arunava Chatterjee, said the virtual teams service was developed in response to market demand.

“Virtual teams are a cost-efficient alternative to hiring local contract or permanent, on-site staff,” he said.

“Making use of virtual teams helps organisations to remain competitive and responsive to the market.”

Mr Chatterjee said, although unemployment was on the rise, it was still difficult for many employers to find IT staff with specialised skills.

“Virtual teams can complement the skills in clients’ organisations by supplying specialist project managers, test managers, business analysts, DBAs, developers and testers to support their in-house teams,” he said.

“Using our virtual teams means you can access the best people for the job due to their skill set, not their physical location.”

Other benefits of virtual teams include cost-efficiencies and addressing time constrains.

“Hiring permanent or contract, domestic employees is an expensive business. Aside from expenses such as paid leave, workers compensation and insurance costs, there is also the cost of keeping a seat available in your office, regardless of the ebbs and flows in workload.

“Using a virtual team means you can hire as few or as many team members for the amount of time they are needed.

“Our teams work to the client’s schedule to ensure maximum convenience and operational efficiency.  Teams are also available around the clock, meaning reduced time-to-market, product development time and 24*7 support.”

The service is currently being offered to clients across Australia and New Zealand, with plans to expand to the UK in the coming months.
